The molecular composition of the Arctic aerosol according to measurements on Wrangel Island
Abstract
The molecular composition of the submicron Arctic atmospheric aerosol is investigated via an analysis of IR transmission spectra with aerosol samples in the wavenumber range 5000-500/cm. Differences in the molecular composition of aerosol matter are discussed chiefly on the basis of IR spectra of four samples selected in the Wrangel Island region in the spring of 1988. The observed changes in the atmospheric aerosol composition are evidently caused by the change in the synoptic situation in this region. Possible paths of aerosol transfer are determined from weather maps.
