Near infrared spectra of potential solids at the surface of Titan.
Abstract
The authors have measured in the laboratory the optical properties in the near infrared (1 - 5 μm) of solid CH4, C2H6 and C2H4 and some of their mixtures. With these data they have simulated the spectra of three mixtures at a resolution comparable to the one of the near infrared spectrometer of the DISR instrument of the Huygens probe. It is found that at DISR's resolution the best features to probe the composition of solid surface on Titan are near 6000, 7500 and 8600 cm-1 for methane, near 7900, 7200 and 8400 cm-1 for ethane and near 6100 cm-1 for ethylene.
