Advanced design of superplastically formed components by finite element simulation
Abstract
A velocity-based updated Lagrangian formulation is employed to develop a computer program for the simulation of superplastic forming processes. An automatic time stepping algorithm based on maximum strain rate instruments is described. It is shown that simulation results can assist in identifying the causes of defects and provide physical insights that can lead to improved designs.
