Inspection of composite structures
Abstract
A review is presented of the inherent characteristics of composite materials and the complex equipment and inspection techniques employed to detect the defects and flaws which occur during fabrication of composites, or during their service life. Attention is given to NDI/NDT methods, tap testing, dye penetrants, the isopropyl alcohol evaporative technique, acoustic emission, thermography, thermochromic and thermoluminescent coatings, laser shearography, radiography, ultrasonic inspection, and acoustical and optical holography.
