Liquid propulsion turbomachinery model testing
Abstract
The various testing techniques utilized to evaluate the flow environment of the Space Shuttle Main Engine (SSME) hot gas manifold are presented. Through a NASA experimental research program, engineers are trying to minimize the fluid dynamic entities and their adverse effects on the SSME. It has been possible to evaluate the flow field and performance changes between various configurations of the manifold, and to examine the effects on the flow field of changing replaceable components of the SSME.
