A new plastic node model for the plastic analysis of plates and shells
Abstract
A simple plastic node model for the finite element analysis of plastic plates and shells is presented in this work. The formulation here is based on the generalized displacement method, the plastic hinge concept, the associated flow rule of plasticity, and the principle of virtual work. The yield function in terms of stress resultants and couples is employed. When the element elastic stiffness matrix is given explicitly, this plastic node model permits the element elasto-plastic stiffness matrix to be obtained explicitly. The plastic node model is applied to the plate element developed by the authors. The numerical examples show that the new plastic node model gives very good results in the plastic analysis of plates.
