Charge integrating optical position sensor
Abstract
A modification to a recently described high-resolution optical position sensor increased its optical sensitivity by several orders of magnitude. The modification is based on charge transfer principles and was implemented in a 3-micrometer CMOS technology. One of the major applications of this device is to use it as the sensor in a telescope position control system for star tracking. The device can determine the precise position of the centroid of a diffuse light source focused on its surface, with integration times of a few milliseconds.
