Constant false alarm processor for a non-coherent radar
Abstract
A description of a nonparametric constant false alarm control procedure for a noncoherent radar is presented. The suitability of the processor is shown via extensive simulation from the clutter data recorded through an existing radar for artillery application. The distribution free processor applicable to the signals which undergo a random change in phase between successive radar returns is the basis for providing the constant false alarm characteristics in the output of the signal processor. Accurate azimuth estimation can be achieved by detecting the slope change of filter outputs. Different configurations such as Ranker + FFT and MTI + Ranker + FFT are analyzed.
