Structure of shock waves in a gas mixture
Abstract
The physical processes taking place in a plane shock wave in a two-component mixture of monoatomic gases with essentially different molecular masses are investigated analytically by solving a system of Boltzmann kinetic equations for gas mixtures. Particular attention is given to the structure of shock waves in the case of a small addition of the heavy component and similar mass densities of the light and heavy components. The partial concentration profiles, temperatures, viscous stresses, and heat flows are calculated. The results are compared with experimental data and other analytical and numerical solutions.
