Fiber-optic gyro prototypes for high dynamic range applications
Abstract
The general design and performance of compact (50 x 50 x 28 mm) fiber-optic gyro (FOG) prototypes developed for high dynamic range applications are described. The FOG prototypes use the hybrid Y-couple architecture and a closed-loop operation scheme based on the digital phase ramp. All-digital closed-loop electronics is used which combines the avoidance of electronic bias drift of digital electronics and the high scale factor accuracy of digital feedback. The FOG prototypes have demonstrated a bias stability of 0.5 deg/hr (1 sigma value) and a scale factor linearity of 10 ppm (1 sigma value) over a dynamic range of +/-1300 deg/s.
