Identification of noise models for GEC Ferranti 125 and 126 gyros
Abstract
A series of tests were conducted to measure the noise of GEC Ferranti 125 and 126 gyros in an effort to predict the performance capabilities of an attitude reference system for space applications. The objective of the tests was to produce gyro noise models that best simulate the sample first and second order statistics of the noise tests. The treatment of such problems as the presence of large deterministic components is described. Power spectral density plots are used to fit white noise driven linear processes. It is found that linear noise models can be estimated from the power spectral densities, but it is not possible to demonstrate the optimality of the noise models for the degree of complexity assumed.
