Self-similar viscous decay in dwarf-nova outbursts
Abstract
The present self-similar solution study of viscous decay in dwarf-nova outbursts establishes that the brightness temperature distribution of the outburst of the dwarf nova Z Cha is reproducible by a self-similar solution. While the solution's temperature distribution approximates that of the steady disk at the inner radii, the mass-flow rate through the disk gradually decreases with increasing radius, and becomes negative beyond a certain radius. Large values must be assigned to the viscosity parameter.
