Mössbauer study of (Sm 1-xNd x) 2Fe 17 and (Sm 1-xNd x) 2Fe 17N y compounds
Abstract
An investigation of the 57Fe Mössbauer spectra of the (Sm 1- xNd x) 2Fe 17 and (Sm 1- xNd x) 2Fe 17N y ( x = 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 2 < y < 3) compounds at room temperature has been reported. The easy axis is found to be in the basal plane for (Sm 1- xNd x) 2Fe 17 and along the c-axis for the whole nitride series (Sm 1- xNd x) 2Fe 17N y ( x ⩽ 0.5) from the study of the hyperfine field and quadrupole interactions. The hyperfine field of the (Sm 1- xNd x) 2Fe 17 compounds decreases when the neodymium content increases. The introduction of nitrogen results in a large increase of hyperfine field and isomer shift (f- and h-site). The hyperfine field in (Sm 1- xNd x) 2Fe 17N y changes very little as x changes from 0.0 to 0.5.
