Sounding of the lower ionosphere using artificial periodic irregularities
Abstract
Several cycles of the relaxation-time measurement of artificial periodic irregularities in the lower ionosphere were performed in the Dushanbe region (39 deg N) in the autumn of 1988 and in the winter and spring of 1989. Seasonal variations of the relaxation times were found: at heights of 90-110 km the spring values were greater than the winter ones. In addition, short-term variations of the relaxation time with periods of 5-15 m were found, which were evidently due to the excitation of acoustic-gravity waves near the terminator.
