The possibility of the capture of ELF emissions in the earth's plasmasphere
Abstract
The paper presents a ray-tracing analysis of ELF emissions with a nearly transverse orientation of wave vectors, propagating from the auroral region of the magnetosphere toward midlatitudes. It is shown that the capture of these emissions inside the plasmasphere occurs for waves with frequencies close to lower hybrid resonance. Wave penetration into the plasmasphere occurs mainly from the internal part of the generation region (L0 not greater than 7) under weak or moderate geomagnetic-disturbance conditions.
