An evaluation programme for the capability approval of GaAs MMICs
Abstract
The evaluation phase of the ESA capability approval program (ESA/SCC 24390) for space qualification of the Plessey GaAs foundry is described. The requirements of microwave integrated circuits and in particular the need for bare die are discussed. Preliminary designs for tests vehicles are described and details of the step stress, accelerated temperature and radiation testing are presented. The active involvement of Alcatel Espace, a foundry customer and ESA subcontractor is seen as an important element to ensure that the needs of the system users are fully accounted for in the program.
