Analysis of unstable flow noise in compressor
Abstract
Two theoretical noise models of surge and rotating stall in an axial compressor are presented. Analysis and calculation results of frequency and propagation characteristics are made. These results show that with the parameter B increase, the frequency of surge noise decreases and its intensity increases. They correspond to the phenomena from experimental results. Having studied the frequency characteristics of noise from rotating stall, a formula which can predict the propagation velocity of stall cell is obtained. The analytical result also shows that the noise of rotating stall can not propagate to a large scope when Mr is less than 1. Some experimental results of rotating stall noise are presented. These conclusions lay the foundation for diagnosis of unsteady flow onset in a compressor by using the noise measurement methods.
