On the application of large-eddy simulation to transitional wall-bounded flows
Abstract
Large-eddy simulations of transition on a flat-plate boundary layer have been carried out. Standard residual stress models of the Smagorinsky type are excessively dissipative, but rescaling the model constant improves the prediction of the total (integrated) subgrid scale dissipation, leading to results that compare favorably with those of a direct simulation, at a small fraction of the computational effort.
