Production development of small fiber optic gyros
Abstract
Three fiber optic gyro developments are discussed; one for medium accuracy applications in manned and unmanned vehicles, one for the ultra-high shock environment of a cannon shell, and one for application in an INS. Flight test results are presented for an inertial measurement unit that employs the medium accuracy gyro and an etched silicon accelerometer. Attention is given to the optical components of fiber optic gyros, including packaged and pigtailed light sources, directional couplers, polarizers, integrated optic phase modulators, and photodetectors.
