Planetenteleskop - A 1-m orbital telescope for solar system exploration
Abstract
An orbiting planetary telescope, called the Planetenteleskop, with 0.1 arcsec resolution for long-term observations of time-variable and invariant phenomena in the solar system is presented, and a spacecraft, based on existing space platforms, is proposed. The science instruments include two cameras and three spectrometers operating in a broad spectral range from UV to IR (115 nm to 8 microns). An advanced thermal concept is utilized in order to sustain an extreme thermal stability within the focal plane assembly and support low operating temperatures of the IR instruments without application of active mechanical coolers.
