Collective ion acceleration in high current relativistic electron beams

The use of high power relativistic electron beams for electron and ion acceleration was investigated. A summary is given of results from the relativistic klystron experiment and details our plans for a large diameter coaxial system. The efforts to generate upper hybrid waves on relativistic electron beams are summarized. Simulation work of the upper hybrid excitation process is reported. The experiment using high power microwaves for electron acceleration is discussed. Progress is reported on development of repetitive pulsed experimental and data acquisition systems. The future research plans are outlined, followed by a list of publications and presentations from the present work.
