Picosecond pulse generation during SBS-SRS scattering
Abstract
SBS-SRS compression of light pulses in a focused pumping beam was investigated theoretically and experimentally with particular reference to the compression of nanosecond pulses of the YAG:Nd laser in fluids. The results of the study suggest that SBS-SRS cascade generation in fluids is a promising method for obtaining picosecond pulses from solid state lasers. The efficiency of pulse compression is largely determined by the appropriate choice of the ratio of SRS and SBS generation thresholds.
