Kinetic models of disperse media with internal degrees of freedom
Abstract
A rigorous asymptotic approach is used to derive equations of motion for suspensions of matter in gas in the case where the gas has a single internal degree of freedom (e.g., vibrational). Flow past particles is assumed to be free molecular; the interaction of gas molecules with the particles is described in terms of Maxwell's mirror-diffusion scheme. A kinetic equation is presented, and its coefficients are calculated.
