Structure of the reconnection layer at the dayside magnetopause
Abstract
Numerical simulations based on a two-dimensional MHD code are used to study the structure of the magnetopause reconnection layer under different symmetry conditions. Results show that the structure of the reconnection layer varies with the degree of asymmetry in magnetic fields and the plasma density on the two sides of a plane current sheet. Based on the results of simulation, the possible dayside reconnection layer structures are considered.
