Zonal effects in the midlatitude ionosphere and thermosphere
Abstract
It is shown that the actual structure of the spatial distribution of conditions for the development of the F1-layer (as measured at 19 vertical-sounding stations) differs significantly from model representations of their longitudinal variations. This discrepancy is interpreted as due to the occurrence of zonal effects in the ionosphere. These effects consist mainly in zonal effects of the gas composition and temperature of the thermosphere.
