Nonlinear wave generation in a nonisothermal plasma - Modulation theory
Abstract
The paper is concerned with the problem of the generation of nonlinear ion-acoustic waves during the reversal of a large-scale perturbation in a two-temperature plasma. It is shown that the system of Whitham equations, describing the oscillatory region formed near the generation point during the reversal, can be replaced by a simpler system consisting of two equations. Self-similar solutions are obtained for this system which correspond to the problem of initial discontinuity decay.
