Local plasma modes in superlattices
Abstract
A study is made of the spectrum of plasma modes in superlattices and layered crystals containing a defective layer in which the electron concentration and effective mass differ from the corresponding values in the other layers of the superlattice. The existence of new plasma mode branches, localized in the defective layer, in addition to volume plasmons, is demonstrated in such a system. A relationship is established between the Green function of plasmons in the superlattice and the transfer matrix. The latter is used to study the plasma spectrum of a finite superlattice.
