Rift drift in floe flow: iceberg wakes in Arctic Sea ice
Abstract
Grounded icebergs in the Barents Sea rip rifts in drifting ice floes revealing the orientation and amplitude of tidal ellipses. An example is given to show how remote sensing from high precision satellites (e.g. Landsat TM) can be used to extract information on the local ocean currents, and on the air-ice-sea interaction, given independent data on air and sea currents.
