The choice of solar activity indices for f0F2 variations according to Sofia station data
Abstract
Various solar and ionospheric indices used in the prediction of F layer critical frequency are compared. The solar indices R, sunspot number, F(10.7), and I(584) are considered in the analysis as well as the global and regional effective sunspot number GESSN and RESSN obtained by ionospheric data. It is found that standard deviation of f0F2 decreases 27 percent in the winter, 36 percent in the summer, and 34 percent in equinoctial periods when using RESSN instead of R.
