QCD Compton scattering at HERA energy
Abstract
Total and differential cross sections for quantum chromodynamics (QCD) Compton scattering in electron proton collisions at HERA energy are presented. The electron photon vertex is taken into account explicitly. The Q (exp 2) of the exchanged photon ranges from nearly zero (almost real photon) to the kinematically allowed maximum. The QCD scale is set by the invariant mass of the quark and gluon produced. It is concluded that at high jet transverse momentum a relatively pure sample of QCD Compton events can be isolated.
