A system for analysis and interpretation of lineaments in remote sensing images
Abstract
An interactive knowledge-based vision system for structural geology under development, aimed at helping the extraction of lineations and lineaments, is described. Many factors (e.g., sensor type, position of the observer, shadowing, knowledge about dominant structures) that act over the detection of linear features, and over the inference of relief convexity and the type of feature are considered. The stored knowledge allows reinforcing image processing algorithm parameters, choosing the region under focus, and generating and confirming hypotheses about the geologic significance of an extracted linear element.
