Electromagnetic levitation with acoustic modulation for property measurement
Abstract
The requirements of acoustic and electromagnetic techniques for application at high temperatures are considered for some metals at their melting points. The electromagnetic forces are estimated in an order of magnitude sense. The acoustic forces are calculated relative to those required for water at room temperatures. Results are obtained for both earth's gravity, and microgravity conditions. Results indicate that higher acoustic pressures are required for the liquid metal cases. It is also concluded that it is feasible to use acoustic techniques in the presence of electromagnetic fields.
