Sound propagation in a non-self-maintained discharge in molecular gases
Abstract
The propagation of acoustic waves in a non-self-maintained gas discharge sustained by an electron beam is investigated analytically for finite electron VT-relaxation and recombination times, with allowance made for light-induced heat release. It is found that, in the case considered, where the source power in the vibrational energy balance equation depends on the gas density and temperature, the amplification properties of the medium are largely determined by the properties of the source rather than VT-relaxation.
