The stability of a low-threshold optical discharge
Abstract
The properties of a low-threshold optical discharge induced by Nd-laer radiation are investigated on the basis of a model that takes the dynamics of plasma temperature and the kinetics of the charged particles into account. It is shown that instabilities connected with the production and destruction of charged particles in the nonequilibrium, partially ionized plasma can lead to the generation of low-frequency waves. The character of the instability determines the natural frequency of the fluctuations and the threshold character of the development of the discharge.
