Scalar transport in turbulent shear flows
Abstract
The transport phenomena in turbulent shear flows are studied. The statistical description of turbulent diffusion and the importance of the probability density function in pratical problems are reviewed. The equations and the quantification of the turbulent diffusion of fluid elements are presented. Taylor and Lagrangian analysis are included. The research performed and the interpretation of data and datasets, concerning turbulent diffusion in shear flows, are presented. In particular, a framework development, the intermittency factor, and the structure of the probability density function are considered.
