Convective heat transfer in a flow of shock-heated air past a plate
Abstract
An experimental procedure for studying convective heat transfer is described which uses thin-film calorimetric transducers in a shock tube. The processing of measurements of nonstationary heat flows on a plate using an image analysis system is described. Data are presented on heat flows corresponding to the shock wave velocity range 3.7-5.8 km/s, shock-heated air temperatures of 3700-6000 K, and air pressures of 0.4-3.2 atm. The results are compared with numerical calculations of a nonstationary boundary layer evolving on a flat plate.
