On a fast two-dimensional radar imaging process for rotating targets, and an analysis of its image quality
Abstract
A fast method for generating two dimensional radar images is presented. The range resolution is obtained in real time by the hardware of a coherent short pulse radar. The cross range resolution is generated by offline data processing means using efficient fast imaging algorithms in accordance with the synthetic aperture principle. Image degradations resulting from approximations in the imaging algorithm and from the movement of the scattering centers through the resolution cells are discussed. A defined weighting function, together with the window functions, compensate this amplitude degradation. Target structures of wide crossrange dimension are discussed. The performance achieved by the imaging procedure is demonstrated.
