Interference effects connected with the propagation of waves in periodically nonuniform media
Abstract
It is shown that the divergence between published numerical and approximate solutions of problems concerning wave propagation in media with periodic modulation of permittivity is due to the fact that the investigators have gone beyond the conditions for the validity of the approximate description. The multiscale expansion method is modified, and approximate solutions with a wider range of applicability are obtained. Particular cases of wave propagation are studied analytically in the case when the coefficient of reflection from a layer is small and the wave intensity envelope has large maxima inside the layer.
