Estimation of the dimensional characteristics of strange attractors in a ring oscillator with delay
Abstract
The dimensional characteristics of strange attractors (SAs) were studied experimentally in an oscillator with delay feedback, consisting of a p-n-p-n nonlinear element, an amplifier, a delay unit, and a first-order low-pass RC filter all connected in series and closed in a ring. Results indicate that the SA dimension in real physical systems with delay can reach D sub nu values of 10-11. The maximum correlation dimension of SAs in an oscillator with delay is determined by the number of modes in the transmission band, increases quasi-linearly with increasing mode number, and is approximately equal to half the number of modes in the transmission band.
