Motion of a rigid body hinged to a deformable rod
Abstract
The paper is concerned with the nonlinear problem of the combined motion of a rotating body and a flexible rod, with one end of the rod hinged to the body and the other end clamped. A closed system of nonlinear equations of motion for a rigid body and a rod is formulated in the general case, where the hinge is a spherical joint. The problem examined here is relevant to the design of flexible-rod anetennas, elastic suspension elements of gyroscopic instruments, and flexible components of robotic manipulators.
