Astro-1 - An optoelectronic measuring system for the astro-orientation of space vehicles
Abstract
The Astro-1 autonomous star sensor/orientation system, which is planned for use on a Soviet spacecraft that will dock with the Mir station, is described. The Astro-1 using a large-scale CCD matrix to record a number of fixed stars to determine the astronomical orientation of the spacecraft. Consideration is given to the imaging system, the system's star filter, the star catalog used to identify the sensed stars, and the orientation computation process. The structure and operation of Astro-1 and the optoelectronic test equipment used to test the Astro-1 system are discussed.
