The F-lacuna phemomenon during the vertical sounding of the auroral ionosphere and the radio aurora
Abstract
The morphological regularities of the F-lacuna phenomenon are investigated on the basis of data from the Murmansk anbd Loparskaia stations for 1978. The relationship between the F-lacuna and the radio aurora observed in zenith by ionosondes with a 90-MHz radar is investigated. It is found that, in general, the frequency of occurrence of the radio aurora is an order of magnitude greater than that of the F-lacuna. In addition, the appearance of the F-lacuna is usually preceded by the appearance of the radio aurora; and when it disappears, so does the radio aurora.
