A high performance satellite data modem using real-time digital signal processing
Abstract
Digital Signal Processing (DSP) techniques employed in the design of a high performance, B/QPSK (quadrature phase shift keying) multi-data rate satellite modem operating at data rates in the range 32 kbits/s to 4.096 Mbits/s are presented. In the modulator a stored waveform modulation method which simultaneously implements the transmit spectral shaping and modulation processes is described. In the demodulator, the areas described are non coherent digital quadrature down-conversion, digital filtering frequency/phase estimation and symbol timing. Algorithms, implementation methods using custom very large scale integration integrated circuits and results obtained are presented.
