Radiation pressure on circumstellar grains - Opacity effects
Abstract
A numerical simulation to calculate the radiation pressure on silicate and carbon grains in spherical circumstellar shells is reported. The simulation accounts for the opacity effect and the thermal emission from other grains. The momentum in mass outflow is compared to the flux of momentum in the stellar radiation, assuming the momentum coupling between the grains and the gas. The results support the conclusion that the radiation pressure on the grains drives the mass loss to its terminal velocity.
