Coded trajectories for the investigation of strongly unsteady flow fields
Abstract
Two-dimensional flow fields were quantitatively measured using coded trajectories of particles. The use of a special exposure pattern allows the determination of direction, velocity, and accelerations. Three-dimensional flow domains can be recognized from the incomplete pattern. This technique has a high time (1 ms) and spatial (3 to 5 mm) resolution. It is illustrated by the flow on a NACA 0012 profile with a 30 deg angle of attack. The flow velocity profiles demonstrate the possibility of the quantitative evaluation using the method of coded trajectories.
