Intercomparison of outgoing longwave radiation obtained from ERBE and NOAA operational satellite - A preliminary result
Abstract
Outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) derived from narrow band AVHRR measurements from the NOAA operational satellite series is compared with OLR measured by satellites in the Earth Radiation Budget Experiment. Although a slight nonlinearity in the comparison is found over the ocean region, the standard deviation of the data is within 2 percent. It is suggested that to fine tune the AVHRR OLR, different regression algorithms may be needed for different surface geographies.
