Alternative anodes for secondary lithium batteries
Abstract
A convenient procedure for the synthesis of alternative anode materials such as Li(x)Fe2O3, Li(x)WO2, and beta-LiAl has been developed. The electrochemical behavior of these materials has been evaluated in cells utilizing a TiS2 cathode and PC-LiClO4 electrolyte. While good reversibility has been observed, the equivalent weights of the lithiated oxides are too high for their use in high-energy density batteries. They are, however, useful for the fabrication of low-rate, moderate-energy density cells utilizing organic electrolytes and Li insertion cathodes.
