Improving battery reliability by using regression trees
Abstract
One way to improve the reliability of primary cells is to use a screening procedure, based on nondestructive measurements, to eliminate cells that will yield poor performance. For a screening procedure to be effective, it is necessary that a relationship between the nondestructive measurements and future performance exists and be understood. Regression trees are used as a tool to model the relationship between nondestructive measurements (in this case, parameters derived from complex impedance analysis) and performance. It is demonstrated that use of regression trees allows for discrimination between fresh and aged cells.
