Kinetic theory of photophoresis
Abstract
The force acting on an aerosol particle illuminated from one side is calculated by solving a linearized gaskinetic equation. A closed system of integral moment equations is obtained which describes photophoresis for arbitrary Knudsen numbers and arbitrary ratios of the particle and gas heat conductivities. Heat source distribution inside a radiation-absorbing particle is described by the Mie theory. The results obtained are compared with the known theoretical and experimental data.
