Nonlinear dynamics of the radiative instability of a high-density rectilinear relativistic electron beam
Abstract
The nonlinear dynamics of a high-density relativistic electron beam emitting in the case of the anomalous Doppler effect is examined. It is shown analytically that the radiative instability can be stabilized by a nonlinear frequency shift. In the nonrelativistic case, this shift is connected with collective beam deceleration, while in the relativistic case it is connected with the dependence of the frequency of plasma oscillations of the beam on their amplitude.
